The Sterilight Process
Sterilight ultraviolet water sterilizers incorporate
natural ultraviolet light energy to eradicate microbiological
contamination.
Sterilight Protects Water Natures Way...
Water enters through the bottom port of the ultraviolet
reactor chamber and swirls around a low
pressure mercury vapour lamp thermally protected
by a quartz sleeve. The UV lamp emits powerful
ultraviolet light energy at a wavelength of 253.7
nm. Vital genetic components contained in microorganisms
absorb the light energy; this disrupts the
DNA and prevents reproduction. Treated water
then exits through the top port of the generator cell
and is ready for consumption.
Natural Purification
Sterilight incorporates modern technology to solve an age-old problem. Bacteriological
contamination can be present in all water supplies, especially rural areas or areas which
are not treated with municipal water systems. It is recommended that no surface waters be
consumed without adequate microbiological treatment, regardless of how the water is tested.
Sterilight protects your water Natures Way by using cleansing ultraviolet light. Unlike traditional
disinfection methods such as chlorination (which can not only react with natural organic matter in
water to produce objectionable taste and odour, but also form substances with known carcinogenic
properties such as trihalomethane), UV imparts no residual chemicals into the water. The result
is the most simple, cost effective way of treating your water!
Product Features
Sterilight products are designed to provide
maximum UV output while remaining
very user friendly. Some of the many
features include:
• 304 or 316 polished and tested stainless steel
reactor chambers
• Quartz sleeves for optimum operating
temperatures
• 254 nm hard glass UV lamps with ceramic bases
for durability and efficiency
• Lamp out alarms for audible and
visual recognition
• True 254 nm UV monitors with various
output devices including LED’s, meters
and remote monitors
• Anodized rust resistant enclosures as
well as full stainless steel enclosures
• Thermistors for control panels and
reactor chambers
• Elapsed time meters
• Solenoid valves and remote metering
equipment including infrared outputs
• Sanitary fittings and electro polishing
for high purity applications
• Units manufactured in most electrical
configurations to satisfy global markets
Proven Performance
The UV dose (fluence)
delivered by
a given reactor is
dependent on
many factors, including
water quality and flow rate. It
should be noted that flow rates are Dose
Dependent. By this, we mean that the flow rate
will vary dependent on the specific dose required. A UV
dose at the 16 mJ/cm2 U.S. Public Health recommendation
will result in a flow rate that is approximately 2 1⁄2 times higher
than a dose at the new 40 mJ/cm2 NSF Std. 55 protocol.
R-Can recommends that you choose the applicable dose requirement
that suits your application. Once this is done, select the unit
that you wish to purchase by referring to the Dose-Flow charts
included with our individual specification sheets. The dose that is
right for you will be a factor of many issues, however for those
applications where general disinfection is proposed we propose the
30 mJ/cm2 “R-Can Standard”.
